Chanel Celebrates its Premiere Watch with a Funfair

French luxury Maison Chanel is celebrating its iconic Premiere watch with a dedicated funfair in Dubai this week. 

The Premiere watch debuted in 1987 and marked Chanel’s first foray into the world of watchmaking. Inspired by the codes of the house, the watch case evokes the stopper of the Houses No. 5 fragrance bottle, while the original bracelet, which is interlaced with leather, takes its inspiration from the chain of classic Chanel handbags, which has been reinterpreted in chain, ceramic, and a velvet-finish. At the time of its introduction, the watch broke the codes of masculinity that had a hold on the horological world, with a timeless, feminine watch that slips perfectly on to the wrist.

To celebrate its iconic watch, Chanel’s Premiere Funfair will begin on Wednesday, March 15^th and will continue until Sunday, March 19^th. The inclusive activation by the French Maison will be open to the public via a booking portal on Chanel’s official site. The Maison has kept the nature of the event a secret, however, taking a lead from Chanel’s previous international activations, be we imagine that it will be every bit as iconic as the watch itself. 

The Dubai-based activation is the second event hosted by the brand in the city in as many years. Last year Chanel beauty hosted a successful pop-up event to celebrate No. 1 DE CHANEL, in Downtown Dubai. The Chanel Premiere Funfair amusement park will host around five unique attractions, each inspired by facets of the iconic timepiece. 

In recent months, Dubai has played host to some incredible activations in collaboration with designer brands. From Hermes’ Kite festival and Dior’s Nammos Beach takeover, to Valentino’s Palm West Beach SAN makeover, and most recently Louis Vuitton’s newsstand, the city has become a place where luxury brands all flock to display stunning installations. Chanel’s Premiere funfair will be the third luxury brand installation in the city in as many months.
