In the realm of Swiss Haute Horlogerie, Audemars Piguet (Instagram) unveils two new, captivating limited editions of its 39 mm Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin model. One edition, crafted in 18-carat white gold, dazzles with 1,528 brilliant-cut diamonds, while the other combines 18-carat yellow gold with brilliant-cut yellow sapphires. Both timepieces are driven by the self-winding Calibre 7121, Audemars Piguet’s most recent and sophisticated extra-thin self-winding movement, introduced in celebration of the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary in 2022.

These two variations represent the evolution of the Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin model, first unveiled in 2018. The 18-carat white gold model is adorned with 1,528 brilliant-cut diamonds, totalling approximately 8.3 carats. These exquisite diamonds grace the case, bezel, dial, and bracelet. Similarly, the 18-carat yellow gold variant boasts a full setting of yellow sapphires, amounting to about 10.4 carats. Audemars Piguet’s artisans have meticulously chosen brilliant-cut stones, ensuring perfect uniformity.

The brilliance of the diamonds and sapphires is further enhanced by mirror-polished chamfers outlining the bezel, case, and bracelet. These timepieces embody the artistry of high jewellery, where each gemstone is selected and cut to meet Audemars Piguet’s exacting standards for purity, cut, and colour.

The gold dials of these watches offer subtle colour variations, with each of their 422 stones reflecting against the gold bezel, applied hour-markers, and hands, creating luminous contrasts. This interplay of light enhances the legibility of the hour and minute hands. The Audemars Piguet signature and AP monogram make an appearance on the sapphire crystal. Even the date window at 3 o’clock harmonizes with the watch’s white or yellow gold tones. The 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight, visible on the caseback, is either rhodium-toned or plated with yellow gold.

Powering these exceptional watches is the Calibre 7121, designed for the extra-thin case of the “Jumbo.” Measuring only 3.2 mm thick, this self-winding movement was specially created by Audemars Piguet’s engineers and watchmakers. It took five years to develop and delivers more energy than the previous generation, thanks to a larger barrel enhancing its power and precision. The movement is adorned with iconic decorations, such as Côtes de Genève, traits tirés, and circular satin finishing, visible through the sapphire caseback.

These two fully set variations of the Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin are exclusively available in Audemars Piguet boutiques. Audemars Piguet, the oldest fine watchmaking manufacturer still in the hands of its founding families, has consistently pushed the boundaries of horological artistry, nurturing generations of skilled craftspeople who have set rule-breaking trends, and these latest offerings continue the trend in fine style.
