Crafted in collaboration with Chinese artist Chen Fen Wan, this watch is not just a timepiece; it’s an artistic journey into the celestial realm of the Loong, or eastern dragon and a celebration of 2024 and the year of the Wood Dragon.

In the Year of the Wood Dragon, Hublot’s (Instagram) creation, limited to 88 pieces, stands as a powerful symbol of luck, strength, and wisdom. The Swiss marque channeled Chen Fen Wan’s (Instagram) expertise in paper cutting to bring life to the dragon’s silhouette in a mesmerizing blend of hands, wheels, and H-shaped screws. With the dragon’s head meticulously composed of five layers, this timepiece is a visual feast and limited to just 88 pieces.

Chen Fen Wan, the artist behind this mesmerizing collaboration, is a graduate of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Her mastery in paper artistry brings universal narratives to life, resonating with emotional tension and collective memories. Recognized by the Chinese Modern Art Archive, her works, including “Hello, Walls” and “Papercut on the Earth’s Window,” showcase her ability to blend personal experiences with broader cultural reflections.

The Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon isn’t just a watch; it’s a metaphor for Hublot’s ‘Art of Fusion’, the House’s creative take on continually re-imagining the materials they use and how their creatives express themselves. The dragon’s intricate layers symbolize the constant reimagining of materials and expressions, echoing Hublot’s. As the dragon’s body extends onto the strap, the marquetry design, a first for Hublot, adds a touch of modernity to this traditional masterpiece.

In a 42mm titanium case, Hublot’s layered dial construction mirrors the art of paper cutting, showcasing the dragon’s silhouette with aplomb. The dragon’s scales, coloured and nano-vulcanised, seamlessly integrate into the rubber strap through meticulous handwork. The Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon features a second titanium-grey Velcro fabric strap, ensuring versatility in style.

Powered by the HUB1710 automatic movement with a 50-hour power reserve, this limited edition timepiece is a celebration of the Chinese New Year and the country’s ancient lore. Chen Fen Wan’s collaboration with Hublot isn’t just about crafting a watch; it’s about bringing the dragon to life, symbolizing renewal, auspiciousness, and the eternal totem of life.
