Kering, the global luxury group, and all its brands have come together to provide support to the thousands of people in Turkey and northern Syria who have been affected by the earthquake that struck the region on February 6th.

Kering, along with all its houses – Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Brioni, Boucheron and more – will together provide a donation to the International Committee of the Red Cross as an immediate contribution to emergency responders who are taking care of people’s needs in the aftermath of the destruction.

Tens of thousands of people were killed, with thousands of others injured by the earthquake that struck south-eastern Turkey in the early hours of Monday morning. The disaster struck near the town of Gaziantep and was followed by numerous aftershocks that included a second quake which was almost as large as the first

The first earthquake registered as 7.8 on the magnitude scale, classifying the earthquake as “major”. The quake stretched along about 100km of a fault line and caused serious damage to the cities in close proximity.

Less than 12 hours after the first devastating quake, a second 7.6 magnitude tremor rocked the region. This was then followed by 100+ aftershocks with a magnitude of 4 and greater. Making matters worse for victims and rescue teams is the fact that the region is currently going through extreme temperatures, with snow covering much of the area the earthquakes destroyed.

So far, numerous global and luxury brands have made commitments to assist victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Zara’s parent company Inditex has already donated $3.2 million to the Turkish Red Crescent , along with 500,000 items of clothing. Istanbul-based Les Benjamins is helping the humanitarian efforts in both countries through their Istanbul warehouse. “At Les Benjamins, we are deeply saddened by the two heavy magnitude earthquakes that took place in Kahramanmaras and affected Hatay, Adana, Osmaniye, Diyarbakir, Adiyaman, Malatay and Sanliurfa,” said the brand in a statement.

Dubai-based brand The Giving Movement is also sending 8,000 pieces of clothing to the area to assist with immediate relief. The brand also called upon Patagonia, Nike and Namshi to support the relief efforts.
