Fresh from showing Fendi’s resort collection – and ode to the Baguette bag – in New York, Kim Jones has now unveiled his latest designs for the houses SS/23 collection at Milan Fashion Week, also a tribute to the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld.

The latest collection is a shift from his usual multi-collab and street-heavy aesthetic that appeared in New York. The SS/23 solo collection features a softer approach, where the colour green is used in different shades and various formats.

Jones turned to familiar fabrics. Rich satins and chiffon returned alongside silks, ribbed cotton, and soft wool. The collection is made up of a green colour pallet, appearing in neon with floral appliques, knee-high boots, and shift dresses, while tulle tunics and handbags were rendered in olive green. Billowing pants and shoulder bags came in a moss hue. For this collection, the designer looked to Fendi’s past as he drives the present.

“It’s about continuity,” Jones said. “I am interested in looking at things that Karl has done and seeing how we can develop them – both visually and technically.”

The SS/23 collection is made up of repurposed archival designs that include heritage floral prints on dresses and the logos that Lagerfeld used in his 2000 presentation. Key looks included slouchy cargo pants, accented with Fendi monogram buckles.

The designer added pink and true blue to his collection to create a splash of colour from the otherwise green-dominated pallet. The colours featured on everything from silky tailoring with origami-like satin obi belts, and waffle-knit sweaters crafted from mink to Peekaboo bags worn around the neck as pendants. For accessories, Jones crafted a bright green furry handbag, wrapped with Fendi’s logo, as well as a fur tote bag finished off with top stitched logo ribbon detailing.

Arguably the best part of the collection can be found in the shoes. Fendi offered several new trends for the Spring that included stacked-heel slides with open toes, knee-high stretch boots, and a platform sneaker in hues of soft green, blues, beige and white.
