The FILA x 2PAC collaboration has been years in the making, in fact, decades. While the sportswear brand and Shakur Estate have come together recently, the artist was known to be a fan of the brand’s footwear. If you page through the CD liner of his 1996 album All Eyez on Me, you’d find an image of the rapper in full denim attire sporting the FILA Grant Hill 2. Now, many years later, the brand has teamed up with the late rapper’s estate to create a collection inspired by 2PAC’s style, and YUNG is bringing you all the exclusive details for you to bask in!
Tupac Shakur was and still is a cultural icon, with his enduring legacy impacting more than just music. Like rappers today, 2PAC was also a style icon. Living through an era defined by streetwear, he was a trendsetter, and his impact on streetwear, hip hop and music can be found throughout all three spheres today.
The collection makes perfect sense if you consider 2PAC ’s legacy. His untimely death is only a testament to his iconic status, so much so that not only are his lyrics sung around the world, but his sense of style is emulated by established hip hop stars and those dreaming of glory.
The Fila x 2PAC collection includes several iconic pieces from FILA’s archives and is inspired by 2PAC’s style aesthetic. Among the lineup are tracksuits, logo-laden t-shirts, camo jackets, shorts and vests with paisley accents that pay homage to the rapper’s famous bandanas, as well as sneakers that mark the late rapper’s love for the Grant Hill 2.
“Tupac [2PAC] had a distinct sense of style, one that is emulated by artists and fans today,” said Tara Narayan SVP at FILA. “He was an activist, musician, artist and icon, and we worked alongside the Estate to curate a special collection that is a true reflection of his aesthetic.”
It wouldn’t be a FILA x 2PAC collab without the Grant Hill 2! In addition to the original red/white/navy colour-way, the brand has added a brown/white colour-way, with paisley accents on the sock liners, as well as 2PAC’s signature on the quarter. However, his personal touch doesn’t end there. The shoe’s tongue also features a velcro patch that reveals a 2PACC cross and they come boxed in a casing that features the artist’s imagery and bandana print.
This collab is meant to keep All Eyez on You from the ground up and we’ll definitely be copping all that we can get our hands on!
Select pieces from the collection will be available starting October 4, with additional drops over the Fall.
